Abstract

The increase of the urban population worldwide brings with it several economic, environmental and sociological challenges. In this context, the concept of Smart Cities emerged, which can be briefly defined as urban centers planned in order to integrate the population in the best possible way, bringing efficiency in the fields of energy, transport, environmental, among others. However, for an effective implementation of Smart Cities, with the optimized use of available resources, it is necessary to use advanced technologies in the fields of information technology and engineering. One of the most outstanding technologies in this context is Building Information Modeling (BIM). This article, therefore, aims to, through a Systematic Mapping of Literature (SML), identify the evolution of research on the use of BIM in Smart Cities worldwide. In conclusion, it can be noted the growing use of BIM in smart cities, as well as its use integrated with other technologies, such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Geographical Information System (GIS), also identifying a big need for research related to the integration between these tecnologies.
