Abstract

This research investigates the thermal performance of social housing in three Brazilian capitals through computational simulation, aiming to study the less favorable solar orientation and the impact of heat gains on the opaque and transparent enclosures of the housing. The methodological procedure consists of: i) climatic characterization of the cities of Manaus, Cuiabá, and Florianópolis; ii) characterization of the multifamily social housing; iii) framing the housing at the minimum level of thermal performance; and iv) analysis of heat gains in the opaque and transparent enclosures. It is observed that the combination of the north-facing main facade and the roof level results in less favorable conditions, with higher internal temperatures in the three analyzed cities. Additionally, improvements in the envelope and reduction of wall absorptance were required to meet the minimum performance level, considering the different climates of the studied cities. It is concluded that the highest gains in the opaque enclosures were observed in the roof, while in the translucent enclosures, they were in the windows.
