Abstract

The plumbing systems for cold and hot water are essential in buildings of various types: residential, commercial, industrial, etc. Thus, it is expected that the construction process and the organization of the production chain will change over time through technological innovations that increase productivity in construction and the system’s reliability, as well as making them more sustainable. The aim of this article is to identify these advancements, characterizing which innovations are altering the structure of the production chain of building hydraulic systems, and identify and list the agents that comprise the production structure. The research methods used were a literature review and a structured interview answered by members of this production chain, encompassing the links of Design, Consulting, and Management (53%), Construction and Installation (26%), Software Development (11%), Research (5%), and Material Manufacturing (5%). The results indicate that the production structure of the chain has been considerably altered in recent times by systemic innovations and the use of new materials. In the future, a factor that will influence this structure is the industrialization of construction and modularization, for which companies are not yet fully prepared, as indicated by 63% of the interview respondents.
