Abstract

Although the publication of scientific papers about green roofs has increased in recent years, studies specifically about green roof’s drainage layer are still rare, resulting in a lack of complete understanding of the scientific community about the performance and purpose of these components in these kinds of system. Thus, the objective of this paper is to obtain the internationally available scientific bibliography regarding the performance and optimization of the drainage layer of green roofs, in order to obtain a state-of-the-art of this system component, through the selection of available bibliographic materials in the CAPES search platform. The discussion shows the awakening of a search for more sustainable and functional drainage materials, in addition to optimizing the system's performance, both in terms of energy savings and water retention capacity, as well as less environmental residual. Furthermore, the results presented by different authors indicate that local conditions and materials used for construction are shown to be a factor of great influence on the behavior of these roofs.
