This article presents a comparative analysis of water consumption in two households with the same number of residents, one with and one without pets. The data were obtained from a database containing water consumption records. Information such as date, start time, duration, and flow rate of each use of sanitary appliances was collected. The data were organized in spreadsheets and analyzed using temporal distribution graphs of consumed volume, applying parameters such as moving averages, control bands, and peak identification. The results indicate that the household with pets showed greater variability in consumption, a higher frequency of peaks, and a broader distribution throughout the day, including atypical hours. In contrast, the household without pets exhibited a more concentrated consumption pattern, with lower dispersion and fewer peaks. These differences directly affect the sizing of building systems, the management of reservoir capacity, and the operation of service lines. Although the results are limited by the sample size, it was observed that the presence of pets may be associated with variations in consumption patterns; however, studies with more representative samples are needed to confirm this relationship and its relevance to hydraulic planning.
