Abstract

This study evaluated the influence of sugarcane bagasse fly and bottom ashes on the rheology and hydration of cement-based pastes. The bagasse ashes were produced with three different particle sizes (10-30 µm). The pastes with ashes were produced by replacing 20% of the cement mass used in the reference mix. Rheology was evaluated through Brookfield rheometer tests, and hydration was monitored by isothermal calorimetry. The results showed that the pastes with bottom ashes did not exhibit significant changes in hydration and in the values of yield stress (t0) and plastic viscosity (µ) compared to the reference paste. The bagasse fly ashes improved hydration and increased t0 and µ. The change in ash particle size did not cause a significant variation in the rheological properties of the pastes, although it did alter hydration due to increased reactivity resulting from the reduction in particle size.
