Abstract

This study evaluates the thermal performance of coating mortars produced with the total replacement of the natural aggregate by three residues: Iron ore tailing, Friable Quartzite and Steel Slag. Energy simulations of low-income housing were carried out using the EnergyPlus software. As a result, waste mortars obtained thermal performance similar to or superior to conventional ones, with emphasis on steel slag. This was due to the high thermal capacity and low thermal conductivity of this material. Thus, waste mortars are promising alternatives to improve the thermal performance of buildings in Brazil.
