Abstract

The geopolymer is a binder obtained from the chemical activation of aluminosilicates source in alkaline solution, such as calcined clays. It has properties similar to Portland cement, but with reduced environmental impact. The mechanical and hydration kinetic resistance of geopolymers developed with two calcined kaolinitic clays, AE23 (high purity) and AE27 (a residue from coal extraction) were evaluated. The geopolymer pastes were evaluated for compressive strength and electrochemical impedance testing. The results showed the accentuated development of mechanical strength and electrochemical impedance of geopolymers with AE23 compared to AE27.
