Abstract

Agro-industrial waste can be attractive for the use as construction aggregate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a low content of rice husk as bioaggregate in concrete. An experimental study was performed with this waste in raw and treated form (1%, by volume) as fine aggregate, and the incorporation of rice husk-ash in partial substitution to cement (8%, by weight). Drying shrinkage and mechanical properties were evaluated up to 6 months. The results demonstrated the achievement of lightweight bioconcretes with satisfactory mechanical properties and stiffness, being able to be applied in structures and closure panels.
