The construction sector is responsible for major environmental impacts, either by the consumption of materials or by the generation of construction and demolition waste (CDW). The application of the concept of Circular Economy (CE) to this industry is fundamental, since this assumes the rupture of the linear economic model (extract, transform and discard) for the use of a model whose materials are designed to return efficiently to the production line. It thus has high potential to address the environmental challenges of the sector, as well as opening up market opportunities and generate economic growth, as it requires new technologies, processes, services and business models. This article analyses the situation and evolution of the Circular Economy in the construction sector of Salvador (Bahia - Brazil), regarding the generation, management and recycling of waste. The study gathers and analyses indicators available and points out the main actors in the region. The results identified particularities and difficulties in the region, revelling the need for new destination alternatives for the generated waste. It is expected that the results presented here can contribute to the promotion of the CE in the Civil Construction of Salvador and other municipalities of the country, and, consequently, contribute to mitigate the negative impacts of this industry and to generate social economic benefits.
