Abstract

Flint kaolin and fly ash are residues from the Amazon region that have significant amounts of silicon and aluminum oxides in their composition; therefore, they have potential for the production of alkali-activated materials. Therefore, the mechanical and durability properties of an alkali-activated paste based on flint kaolin and fly ash for application in civil construction were characterized. The results show a gain in compressive strength as kaolin is replaced by fly ash, but water absorption remains high regardless of the formulation.
