Abstract

The present work deals with the analysis of the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams using recycled aggregates from concrete specimens with a known characteristic strength of 35 MPa. Different types of concrete were made, one being a reference that contains conventional aggregates and others containing conventional aggregate replacement by recycled CDW aggregates of different classes and substitution levels. With these different concrete mixtures, cylindrical and prismatic specimens were fabricated and used to determine the mechanical properties of concrete, as well as reinforced concrete beams. The beams have a 0.15m x 0.30m section with a free span of 1.4m and their instrumentation was performed based on strain gages located in the reinforcement and concrete, in addition to the use of transducers on their underside. These elements were submitted to the simple bending test. Based on the analysis of the results, it is considered that the beams containing recycled aggregates have a slight inferiority in shear strength when compared to the reference beam. On the other hand, as the performance reduction of the CDW beams is small and the resistance achieved by all the beams are close to each other, it is concluded that the use of recycled CDW aggregates in these structural elements is technically feasible.
