Abstract

The search for environmental preservation has been making waste reuse initiatives more widespread. In this bias, this work proposes the replacement, in mortars, of the sand, extracted from natural deposits, by the residue of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), in order to promote the reuse of this material. With this study it was possible to evaluate the behavior of the mortar with addition of EPS in the fresh state. It was observed that a decrease in the mechanical resistance of the mortars with replacement, but also an increase in the workability, visible in the decrease of the density and increase of the consistency. Finally, through the evaluation of the data, it was observed that the trait with substitution of 25% presented the best results, with increase in workability without marked losses of mechanical resistance.
