Abstract

The construction industry has great relevance in the country's economy. However, the development of its activities has a great environmental impact, the generation of solid waste, of which represents about 40-70%. Espírito Santo is relatively new in the field of management and recycling of construction and demolition waste (CDW) compared to the national scenario, since the operations of CDW plants in the state began in 2012. In this context, this article aims to evaluate the procedures related to the collection and destination of construction waste in Grande Vitória. For that, three CDW recycling plants located in the study area were evaluated. The results showed that, despite having the capacity to treat approximately 30% of the CDW produced in the metropolitan region, the plants receive less than 13% of this material, coming from small generators and large private companies in the areas of construction, demolition, transportation and ornamental rock processing. Furthermore, the recycled aggregate is usually used in paving. Thus, it should be emphasized the importance of the development of research, technical standards and a greater integration with local governments and public awareness in order to facilitate the processes and ensure the correct destination of the CDW.
