INFLUENCE OF WATER JIG USE IN THE PROPERTIES OF CDW COARSE RECYCLED AGGREGATE

Many researches emphasize the possibility of waste deriving of construction and demolition (CDW) from engineering works use as a coarse recycled aggregate. However, the big heterogeneity of this material involves its substantial properties variability as well as the properties of concretes produced with them, which hamper the standardization for large scale use. Therefore, different processing and CDW aggregates beneficiation forms has been studied in order to reduce this variability. Among the main methods, there is the density separation with water jigg use, a well diffused equipment in mining industry and which is seen as a potential CDW beneficiation agent in civil construction sector. This job intends to characterize CDW coarse recycled aggregate collected in a recycling plant in Porto Alegre aiming at concrete production, as well as assess the efficiency of jigging process for these materials. Hence, the specific mass, the single mass and the water absorption tests besides the aggregate composition of the upper and the lower jig layers, comparing them with the aggregate that were not submitted to jigging. In general, the jigging process proved to be efficient in the improvement of assessed aggregates properties, with significative potential to be applied in large scale to CDW processing.
