Abstract

The concept of “sponge cities”, linked to the absorption and storage of water, has emerged as a response to climate change and accelerated urbanization. Soil sealing aggravates flooding, while the generation of construction and demolition waste (CDW) contributes to improper disposal. The use of RCD in permeable concrete offers a promising solution for water infiltration, reducing surface runoff and promoting the circular economy, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study, through the SREE (Systematic Review for Engineering and Experiments) systematic review, investigates the influence of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) on the properties of permeable concrete and identifies gaps in research. The need to optimize the proportion of RCA to balance mechanical-hydraulic properties is highlighted, with adjustments in the content of aggregate replacement and the maximum size of recycled content. More research is needed to expand the urban application of the material.
