Abstract

The increasing production of agro-industrial waste, such as rice husk, and the significant impact of CO emissions from the cement industry drive research aimed at finding ways to reduce the environmental impact of these industries. Rice husk ash (RHA), characterized by its high pozzolanic reactivity after grinding and its amorphous silica content, has shown potential to improve mechanical properties and durability in cementitious mixtures. This study analyzed 25 works, highlighting the percentages of cement substitution with RHA in concrete mixtures, the effects on their physical and chemical properties, and the optimal replacement levels. It was found that substitutions of up to 20% are often associated with increased compressive strength and reduced porosity. This research aimed to highlight the advantages and limitations of using this waste, as well as to identify gaps for future projects, particularly regarding the optimization of substitution levels.
