Abstract

In the search for initiatives that can mitigate the impacts of the construction sector, the reuse of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) is highlighted for providing an alternative material, while at the same time giving a better destination to the material that would otherwise be discarded. This study evaluated the possibility of using CDW with plastic waste to manufacture a sealing brick. A dosage of a composite that has Recycled Polypropylene (RPP) as a matrix was tested. The materials were mixed using a thermokinetic mixer. In the mixer chamber, the RPP melts and is homogenized with the CDW. Molds were developed for modeling cylindrical specimens that, after heat treatment for conformation, were tested for water absorption and axial compression resistance. The results indicate technical feasibility of using the material to produce a sealing brick composed 100% of waste.
