Abstract

Educational buildings have a high energy consumption, with a considerable impact on institutional energy bill. The Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of USP project prioritizes spaces where the students can learn collectively, like the studios. Such spaces were conceived from the use of the zenithal light provided by the domos. This work aims to evaluate the luminous performance of this building and also to study energy efficiency with the intention of developing a management plan in order in order to use artificial light more consciously in the university, in a passive way, keeping the existing equipments. To achieve this goal, procedures of inductive-empirical and deductive-simulational nature were adopted. The results found by both methods show excellent levels of internal illuminance from natural light. The cross-referencing of the information about natural lighting and the existing artificial lighting system points to an annual energy saving of 54% of what is now spent, the equivalent of R$ 107,000.00 per year.
