Water conservation: study of implementation of rain water harvesting in a public institution

ABSTRACT: Amidst the previsions of hydric shortage and with the necessity to increase efficiency in water use on production and human use, this study aims to study measures of water conservation and to analyze the impacts of water consumption in a public building. Its methodology is based on the guidelines of the Water Conservation Program (PCA), developed within the National Policy Against Water Wastage (PNCDA, 2003). Through the analysis of the possible solutions, it was determined that the use of rain water would be the most effective method for non-potable uses. It is estimated 90% of the building use of water could be supplied by rain water, debiting this same percentage over the drinkable water once provided by the sanitation company.
