Analysis of water savings with the use of rainwater and reuse of graywater in a multifamily residential building

ABSTRACT: Water is irreplaceable in various human activities, with the increase in water demand it becomes necessary to know the final uses of this. Thus, this article aims to analyze the final uses of water in order to determine the impact of the use of rainwater and gray water on the water savings of a residential building. Initially, a questionnaire was applied to the residents of the building about their water consumption habits and with the results the final uses of water in the building were estimated. Subsequently, the savings of drinking water were estimated with the use of rainwater and the reuse of gray water. The results show that the rainfall use provides a saving of 31.55% of drinking water and with reuse of gray water a saving of 21.71%. The study contemplated only a simplified comparison and for the implementation of the systems should be considered more variables, such as the seasonality of the rains and the costs of implementation.
