Abstract

One of the recurrent pathological manifestations in the elements, like fissures, comes from alkali-aggregate reactions (AAR). One of the techniques used to minimize this chemical reaction is the use of mineral additions. Thus, this study aims to mitigate the AAR of the pebble aggregate with the use of silica fume with contents of 8%, 10% and 12% in partial replacement to Portland cement. The evaluation of the alkali-aggregate reaction was carried out using the accelerated method in mortar bars. The results induced the 8% silica fume content mitigated an RAA.
