Abstract

There is a growing search for alternative materials that can be used in place of Portland cement without impairing its performance in order to reduce its consumption, since the cement production chain is responsible for a large part of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The research had as objective to study the influence of the substitution of Portland cement by sugarcane bagasse ash in the performance of self-compacting concrete walls. Firstly, the reference trait was established and the substitution contents were used in 10% and 15%. After the concreting and molding of the test specimens, the concretes were submitted to moist curing and exposed for 28 days. Its use was studied through mechanical tests: uniaxial compression strength, modulus of deformation, water absorption and surface hardness. The best result for the compressive strength was in the substitution of 15% of gray, so it is inferred that the use of the same can be considered as an alternative material for the production of concrete and contribute to the decrease of CO2 in the atmosphere, but it is necessary to emphasize the indispensability of further studies to improve its use.
