Work waste is still seen as a major threat to the environment. In this context, this work has as main objective the search for the use of the waste from the civil construction of the city of Tucuruí-Pa, specifically the residue of demolition of gypsum elements, for this purpose, it was sought to evaluate the characteristics of this material and its recyclable potential . For the present research was carried out the collection of residues of gypsum lining board and subsequent separation and processing of this material. After the calcining process the material characterization (granulometry and unit mass) and chemical properties (free water, water of crystallization, calcium oxide content and sulfuric anhydride) of the gypsum in the form of powder were developed. The physical properties of the paste (normal consistency and bonding time) and the mechanical properties (surface hardness and compressive strength) in the hardened state were also analyzed. The results obtained were largely in accordance with the normalization, allowing a positive evaluation of the material. In view of the above, the feasibility of the recycling of gypsum from demolitions was certified, and the material complies with the standards in force and can be reused in its various civil construction applications.
