PORTUGUêSAbstract
This article analyzes the effect of verticalization on the microclimate of the urban space known as "Três Ruas", in the Bancários neighborhood, João Pessoa-PB. The study compares the current situation with two hypothetical verticalization scenarios: one with 10 floors and the other with up to 20 floors. The modeling of the buildings considered the replacement of single-family homes and commercial buildings by buildings, maintaining the existing vertical buildings. The PET thermal comfort index was calculated using the ENVI-met program and the Rayman Pro software to assess the climatic conditions. To simulate the increase in temperatures caused by climate change, 11/23/2019 was selected, considered the hottest in the last 30 years, representing the hot and dry period. The results indicated that verticalization had a significant impact only on-air velocity, not significantly affecting air temperature and humidity. A small variation in the mean radiant temperature was observed with increasing verticality. However, there was thermal discomfort, especially between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., based on the PET index. It is concluded that verticalization, by itself, has an insufficient effect on the control of urban heat. Therefore, it is essential to analyze suitable mitigation strategies during urbanization to provide an urban environment that is more comfortable and adapted to climate change.
