Research which evaluates Social Housing (SH) in Brazil often points out unfavourable conditions expressed by residents, in terms of the residential unit and common spaces, as well as surroundings. Participatory processes to improve projects are considered essential for political, social and economic reasons, and user values need to be prioritised. Processes to develop improvements for existing SH, that include residents as protagonists, with active participation, may guide more effective actions. However, such effective participatory processes in architecture and construction are still scarce in Brazil. This research developed a case study with the participation of residents of a small SH project in Campinas, with a specific focus on improvements for the children's leisure areas. The study involved the public targeted, children living in SH complex analysed, in defining their leisure space. Results showed that the participatory process, developed with children, and its methodology and tools applied, provided learning, and proposals were created and evaluated. Identifying user value is thus shown to be essential for the development of design improvements for a specific public targeted and participatory ludic activities are effective to engage users.
