Abstract

The design of the sound landscape can be considered a facet of urban design (REHAN, 2016). The main objective of this work is to systematize strategies for the use of vegetation as an instrument to aid urban acoustic planning. From the research technique of systematic review of literature, we sought to systematize and classify the main strategies for the improvement of sound quality in the urban environment. As a result, we analyzed 39 articles and documents compiled in congresses in the area and in the Capes and Goggle Academic Periodicals databases. As a product, the article presents 21 strategies of vegetation application, distributed in seven categories: extension of urban green areas; acoustic barrier; slopes; tree groups; lining; vegetated walls and facades; and green roofs. Making sound an important aspect of urban development, and adding vegetation use strategies to greening cities can be an important tool for noise attenuation, and more than that, a tool for qualifying sound environments.
