Keywords:

The research evaluates the acoustical quality of a commercial office in an icon building of the Brazilian Modernist Architecture, located in São Paulo city: the Sul-Americano Bank building (current Itaú Bank), designed by the architect Rino Levi. The methods used in the research are experimental and qualitative (through surveys, interviews, and field measurements of acoustic parameters), supported by numerical method. The sound pressure level, percentile levels, the equivalent modulation and the reverberation times are evaluated. The results are analyzed and compared with comfort criteria, allowing to quantify its acoustic faults, in order to elaborate an intervention proposal so that the place reaches the suitable acoustic quality for its usual activity. The study can help understand the overall comfort of the building, in order to achieve a critical analysis that goes beyond the quantitative issues of environmental comfort.
