Abstract

Wind turbine noise must be measured and analyzed in a specific technique because it is highly dependent on the wind speed, temperature and terrain. The goal of this paper is to characterize the noise from a wind farm in the south of Brazil trough day and night measurements with the wind turbine working and shut down based on the Brazilian standard NBR10.151. The data were assessed with LAeq,10min; LAeq,global; LA10,10min, LA90,10min and sound spectrum. The morning measurements didn't show many variations with and without the shutdown of the wind turbine, the majority of the LAeq,10min were under 40 dB(A) - threshold established by the Brazilian standard to rural areas. The nighttime was assessed only with turbines on, which resulted in levels between 37,5 and 43,3 dB(A); above 35 dB(A), which is the limit established by the standard. The NPI value calculated for daytime shows that the source could be considered perceptible to noticeable for the community and result in a potentially adverse to an adverse response. In daytime, the noise from wind turbine is perceived because of the variation above 3 dB in sound pressure level, meanwhile still below the threshold. Unlike the measurements in nighttime, which besides being above the limit, could affect the healthy of the community.
