An important aspect of the wind farm planning process is the analysis of wind turbine noise. Many countries Australia, United States and Canada already have recommendations for noise limits and emissions from wind turbines that must be adopted to minimize the effects of wind turbine noise on the residents. Although Brazil remains among the largest producers of wind energy, the country has no regulations to measure and classify this type of noise source. This paper presents an update on limits, criteria and recommendations of sound pressure levels based on noise disturbance in wind farms located in rural areas of North America, EU and Oceania in order to contribute to a possible regulation in Brazil. The method defined for this paper was to compile, organize and analyze the updated bibliographic material already mentioned. It was observed that the most widely used noise descriptors in Europe, America, and Oceania are LAeq and LA90,10 min. The research also showed that America, Europe, and Oceania have regulations with varying values of maximum sound levels recommended for rural areas ranging from 35 dB (A) to 60 dB (A). It should be noted that the parameters, descriptors and measurement procedures should be established on the basis of standard guidelines, and further studies are appropriate according to the characteristics of each location where the wind farm operates.
