Currently, the demand for homes in gated communities is on the rise due to search for security, privacy, convenience and other aspects that the State cannot provide. In recent years various studies have been conducted that prove sound pressure levels higher than those recommended, mainly in big city access highways, having high levels of noise produced by the flow of vehicular traffic, not being only of noise pollution, but also uncomfortable for the health of the population. The study Grupo de Estudos do Ambiente Sonoro (GEAS), with purpose to locate silent areas in the districts of Santa Amélia and Jardim Petrópolis gathered data that will be proven through noise measurements carried out in pre-set points, through land use surveys and the flow of vehicles in the region. From the survey data, these are inserted in the software for production of CadnaA map of the neighbourhoods studied sound and diagnose if these areas provide an environment acoustically healthy in the city of Maceió. Thus, the present work demonstrates the existence of silent areas in these neighborhoods and the proximity to polluted areas such as shopping centres, bars and restaurants. Having this type of housing as an option for the preservation of acoustically suitable for residential environments areas following the levels required by NBR 10151 (2000).
