Abstract

The inclusion of positive distractions in hospital environments is a means of alleviating the stress condition suffered by patients, families and employees of these establishments. In this context, the existence of quality views to the external environment is a way to promote positive distractions for users of hospital buildings. In order to compare the requirements of the methods of EN 17.037:2018 and LEED 4.0 and 4.1 for assessing the quality of views in inpatient environments, a case study was developed in the Medical Clinic wing of a university hospital. Both systems require the existence of quality views. Both EN 17.037:2018 and LEED consider that at least 75% of the analysed area should attend the specific minimum criteria. The analysis was performed through computer simulations, using the ClimateStudio plugin. According to the general results of the simulations, the requirements of EN 17.037:2018 proved to be more restrictive than the requirements of References 4.0 and 4.1 of the LEED certifications, serving only 74% of the analysed area. The general evaluation showed a more satisfactory result using the LEED method, with 79% or more of the area meeting the requirements set. The main barrier recognized for a view to the exterior to be considered as a quality view can be associated with the stages of definition of location and implementation of the enterprises. The importance of considering the views for defining the location of long-stay environments was observed. Finally, the use of simulation software to assess the quality of the views was recognized as an important method of aid to the elaboration of projects.
