DECREE NO 9296/2018 AND ITS IMPACT ON THE HOTEL NETWORK,

AN INVESTIGATION OF CASES IN THE CITY OF MACEIÓ

Abstract

This research aims at contributing to the discussion on ergonomic accessibility practices in hosting facilities. The investigation takes place in hotels located in Maceió-AL, in Pajuçara neighborhood. Taking into account the normative criteria established by the Federal Decree No 9.296/2018, the objective of this study is to understand how the ergonomic adaptations concerning accessibility took place in three hotels built in different periods. The methodology was based on three distinct stages, the first approached the definition of criteria for choosing the three enterprises, the second was based on the visualization and observation of the floor plans of the projects: considering the ergonomic principles of accessibility in different periods of conception, how were each of these hotels projects thought by their architects? At a later moment, an on-sight visit was carried out in each of the hotel enterprises. The goal was to identify possible adaptations related to the principles of accessibility, such as demanded by the Decree No 9.296/2018. It was noted that regardless of the current legislation and of the increased awareness on the necessity of applying accessibility principles to architectural projects, noncompliance to the norms is still very common. Inadequacies concerning the freedom and autonomy of people with disabilities were identified, and the study concluded that hotel enterprises should conform to the legislation, by means of spaces and conditions that foster equality.
