Several bioclimatic strategies are used in order to extract the maximum natural resources potential available at the site of an architectural project. One of the main ways to evaluate the performance of each strategy in the project is the use of thermal, light and energy simulations. Using these simulation softwares, it is possible to quickly and inexpensively evaluate several solutions, when compared to the experimental methods, obtaining, thus, the best solution regarding both the energy efficiency of the building and the user thermal comfort. In order to measure the gains obtained from the application of these strategies, this article investigates the influence of the shading elements – brises, shutters and cobogós – and the presence of natural ventilation at the internal rooms temperatures, for a commercial building called "Espaço LarVerdeLar ", built in the city of Governador Valadares-MG. In addition, the paper confronts the energy consumption obtained through simulation and real data of the building in operation. Using EnergyPlus software, version 8.9.0, a computational model was created for the "Espaço LarVerdeLar", which was simulated with a local climate file. For each adopted strategy – brises, blinds, cobogós and natural ventilation – the values of internal rooms operative temperatures were compared. The results showed that the use of natural ventilation and sun protection strategies improved the thermal comfort in the building.
