Abstract

The urban climate has a direct influence on the energy efficiency of buildings and their immediate surroundings, however, it is known that there is still much to develop in the promotion of integrated multidisciplinary urban projects that take into account the need for full use of urban space by the citizen , especially in relation to environmental variables such as natural insolation, ventilation and lighting. Such determinants have a significant impact on the thermoenergy efficiency of residential buildings and services. This study aims to analyze the impact of a vertical building in height (condominium A) in the urban context under the bias of natural ventilation. At the same time, the thermal comfort within the dwellings of a building in the immediate surroundings of this building is evaluated from the index of ASHRAE 55 (2004). The methodology applied in this article starts with the three-dimensional survey of the study site separating into two analysis scenarios, one of which the tall building exists and the other without its construction. Subsequently, an analysis of fluid dynamics simulations with an urban context is carried out, aiming to verify the probable pressure in the frames in a building to leeward of the condominium A (condominium B), followed, therefore, to fluid dynamics simulations inside these dwellings; simulations of thermal gains and shading, respectively. In conclusion, therefore, the construction of condominium A increased the comfort time of condominium B as a consequence of its shading according to the adaptive method of ASHARAE (2004). However, speeds encountered in condo B after the construction of condominium A reveal low speeds, revealing the importance of sunscreens at this location.
