Over time, the requirement level of habitability and safety in buildings has been increasing. After the publication of ABNT NBR 15575:2013 standard, the Brazilian civil construction sector required readjustments to meet the new required parameters, many of them until then unpublished in the country. Among these requirements, there are minimum parameters of thermal performance of buildings, which classify the behavior of indoor environments regarding temperatures. In order to meet them, interventions may be necessary in the design of buildings, such as new specifications, inclusion or re-dimensioning of new building elements, among others. The present study evaluated the influence of the building envelopes’ characteristics on the thermal performance of single family housing in Rio Grande do Sul state (Brazilian bioclimatic zones 1, 2 and 3). These variables include specification of the constructive systems (walls, ceiling and roof), windows area and exterior color of the facade. The method adopted is computational thermal simulation, using EnergyPlus software. In order to carry out the study, a single-family social interest housing project was adopted, simulated in all combinations of the envelope variables, in the three bioclimatic zones in Rio Grande do Sul state. The results were generally similar between the analyzed bioclimatic zones, and pointed out the influence of the variables, in descending order, as: facade color; roof system; ceiling system; walls system and windows area.
