Abstract

This paper focus on thermal and daylight performance of the recent production of open plan microapartments in São Paulo. The recent production of this typology already represents a relevant portion of São Paulo´s current real estate market. Between 2011 to 2015, the share of this typology, up to 45m², in the residential releases had an annual average growth of 35%, increasing from 7,9% in 2011 to 35,9% in 2015. This paper aims to evaluate the daylight and thermal performance of micro-apartment built in São Paulo, between 2011 and 2015. The method is experimental based on empirical surveys of thermal and light variables (air temperature, radiant temperature, relative humidity and air speed, and illuminance) in five case studies. The results were comparatively analysed and provided the set of problems regarding the thermal and daylight comfort of the user and an assessment of the cases under analysis. During the winter season field experiment, the five units are more than 45% of the time below 80% acceptability range of adaptive model and approximately 60% of hours inside the UDI range (300lux - 3000lux), which demonstrated the low performance of the assessed micro-apartments.
