The main objective of this work is to analyze the use of automation in air conditioners used in classrooms of an educational building aiming at the rational use of electric energy. It is initially presented a survey of the installed powers of the air conditioners in each of the classrooms, which are compared with the power required by prescriptive methods of calculation of the thermal load and with the results of the computer simulation obtained with the use of the software EnergyPlus. In the search for solutions that aim at an improvement in the rational use of electric energy, the research presents measurements of active power in five classrooms, with conventional operation, that is to say, without any interference in the system, in comparison to the automated drive for periods of use and later with controlled drive through the schedule of occupation of the classrooms. The data were collected through the measurements in the distribution boards that feed the conditioners. The results of the energy measurements showed the operation of air conditioners outside class hours, since, in this situation the consumption of electric energy is significant, can be reduced with the use of automation of the operation of the devices.
