Abstract

Courtyards can provide solar radiation control and reflect light to the adjacent surfaces. The aim of this study is to qualify solar radiation on a geometric model, considering the orientation of its faces. Computer modeling was used to calculate solar radiation. The results showed that orientation affects the amount of solar radiation on the model. However, total amount of solar radiation on the inner surface of the model does not change significantly due to orientation. This work is part of a broader study in which other parameters, orientation and areas were explored to qualify a generic model for the comprehension of the courtyard as a strategy for the solar radiation control.
