Abstract

Daylighting contributes to visual comfort and building energy efficiency, as well as psychological and physiological benefits. This article presents the evaluation of daylighting availability in the multifamily housing Conjunto Residencial Videiras, located in south Brazil, belongs to the Minha Casa Minha Vida Programme. The method evaluated, through the APOLUX IV simulation program, the daylighting availability in a bedroom and the living-kitchen-laundry integrated environment. The metrics evaluated were DA and UDI and the reference parameters are established by Brazilian standards NBR 15575 and RTQ-R. Apartments on ground, 3rd and 5th floors were selected. Considering DA, the apartments on 5th floor satisfy the DA 120 lux daylight factor. The ground floor do not satisfy DA 60 lux daylight factor. The 3rd floor satisfy partially the DA 60 lux. Considering UDI, only the 5th floor reaches 80% of annual hours in the 120 lux to 2.000 lux interval. The ground and 3rd floors reach only 60 lux to 2.000 lux interval. More unfavourable locations are northeast and southeast, for bedroom; and southwest, for integrated environment. The main recommendation is determine the distances between the housing blocks according to windows areas and their geographical orientation, in addition to building-height.
