This paper aims to present a reflection regarding the main assistive technologies used to aid people with total or partial blindness. The goal is to understand the tools’ properties in helping with mobility and spatial displacement, considering their advantages and disadvantages. The methodology applied was a literature review, both by traditional procedures and SRL (Systematic Review of Literature), followed by an analysis of the technological tools, listing their main characteristics and contributions. Tactile floors, tactile maps and urban mobility apps were the targets of this study since they are the most used technical aids. The research team sought to understand each tool, its uses and applications, as well as the positive and negative points they could present. The results showed all tools are unequivocally important to the public they intend to reach. However, they are also subject to problems that, as a rule, may confuse the user. While they represent a major breakthrough, high-tech apps cannot be said to give their users full autonomy and security.
