Abstract

The use of containers in the civil construction has been growing exponentially in Brazil, because of the economic and environmental factors. The city of Palmas, capital of the state of Tocantins, has a high annual average air temperature and this condition can be a limiting factor for the adoption of a container in the city. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate materials that can present a satisfactory performance for thermal insulation of containers and the effective application of this material in the housing market. The objective of the research was to investigate the behavior of three materials of different characteristics, acting in the thermal insulation of a marine container, installed in an open area of uncovered the southern region of the city. Among the insulators, it was tested the Aluminum Thermal Blanket, OSB Plates and Glass Wool. The materials were installed inside the container on different days and later the measurements were made through the use of the HOBO (Pendant Coupler) optical station. By the measurements and analysis of the data, it was demonstrated that the OSB boards present better thermal performance than the other applied materials.
