The avenue leopoldo machado is one of the main mobility routes of the city of macapá, located in northern brazil, both for pedestrians and cars, as it connects the northern hemisphere with the southern hemisphere of the city, it presents inconstancy in the afforestation along its length, which makes it difficult for people to move around adequately and with thermal comfort. The present study focuses on analyzing the urban microclimate in the area, to understand the influence of the surface temperature of urban paving on urban thermal comfort. It was employed as a method, field measurements with meteorological devices and later simulations with envi-met 4.0 software to analyze the actual urban space and the "hypothetical" urban space. The results obtained demonstrated the influence of materials and vegetation on local microclimate changes. By performing the "hypothetical" implementation of afforestation it was indicated that in the "hypothetical" scenario where there is abundant afforestation the surface temperature of the asphalt sidewalk decreases up to 23ºc compared to the "hypothetical" scenario without afforestation, whereas the surface temperature of the ground on the sidewalk decreases up to 23.8ºc in a "hypothetical" scene with abundant afforestation compared to a "hypothetical" place without afforestation. It was found that the surface temperature of the asphalt sidewalk is always higher than the temperature of the base of the trees, due to the characteristics of the asphalt properties in storing solar radiation, which makes it necessary to study the properties of paving materials suitable for the local climate for the replacement of the current sidewalk and a planning of adequate afforestation for the city, as a way to mitigate the effects of urban warming
