Abstract

The bioclimatology applied to cities is related to the influence of the urban climate on comfort and health, performing needs of studies that demonstrate the impact of different urban geometries on the microclimate, especially on air temperature and natural ventilation in promoting well-being to inhabitants. This research aimed to conduct a brief review of the literature on verticalization and microclimates in tropical cities. For this, a search was made on the Scopus platform resulting in 47 articles, of which 25 were selected based on the established selection criteria. Only articles published in English were selected. The articles were organized by country of study, year of publication, journal, or event in which they were published. The results indicated that research on verticalization and microclimates in tropical cities is concentrated, especially, in the Asian continent, whose studies were mostly carried out between the years 2010 and 2020, published mostly in the journal Building and Environment. In addition, it was concluded that urban geometry is the most studied factor in the researches, correlated with climatic conditions and the variables of thermal comfort.
