In pandemic time, due to the new coronavirus, home office has become part of the daily life of a significant portion of the workers. Thus, by the need to ensure equivalent levels of productivity and quality of life, one of the factors of relevant importance in the organization of space is highlighted: the conditions of natural lighting of the environment. In this context, bearing in mind that roller shades are shading devices widely used in Brazilian homes, and that their different configurations can influence the availability of natural light inside the room, this paper aims to evaluate the lighting performance of this architectural item in a hypothetical bedroom environment, used as a home office, in a standard apartment building located in the city of Maceió. The evaluations were based on computer simulations performed using the TropLux software. Results show that the use of rolling shutters helps to control the luminous discomfort caused by excessive insolation, allowing the illuminance on the work surface to be lowered to acceptable levels according to the daylighting metrics.
