Abstract

Environments located in hot humid climates receive a large amount of solar radiation impairing the luminous comfort of the user of the indoor environment. Sun protection devices are characterized as alternatives to contain direct sunlight in these environments. Thus, this article aims to investigate the luminous performance of light shelves associated with brises in an office environment in Vitória-ES. In the methodology, simulations were performed in the TropLux software, in six models: (1) room without device; (2) room with a light shelf; (3) room with a light shelf associated with horizontal brises with five blades; (4) room with a light shelf associated with inclined brises with five blades; (5) room with a light shelf associated with horizontal brises with two blades and (6) room with a light shelf associated with inclined brises with two blades. Reflections of 0,80 and 0,20 were applied on the surfaces of the light shelves and brises. The simulations took place for dynamic sky, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on all days of the year, in the North and South orientations. The analysis metrics were the UDI (useful daylight illuminances) intervals and the DA (Daylight Autonomy). The results showed that in the North orientation, the association of a light shelf with horizontal or inclined brises with five blades proved to be more efficient, being identified about 87% of the hours of the day in the sufficient UDI interval. In general, the reflectance of 0,20 performed better for South and North, in addition to reducing by up to 100% the excessive lighting in the internal environment in the North orientation.
