Abstract

Natural lighting, in addition to providing comfort and health to users, also promotes a reduction in energy consumption in buildings. In this sense, the code for building works as a regulatory instrument, indicates minimum dimensions and areas to be used in an architectural project, which often does not provide the energy performance of the building and lighting comfort for the user, among them, the kitchen environments. The Vitória - ES works code allows kitchen environments to be designed adjacent to the service areas, in which, in most cases, it is the external wall of the service area that contains the opening for natural light access to both environments. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the performance of natural light in kitchens with different geometries in multifamily buildings in Vitória - ES. The methodology includes analysis regarding solar geometry and simulations in TropLux 8 software. The models analyzed are kitchens of a multifamily residential building located in the urban area of Praia do Canto in Vitória – ES. The kitchen models have the same area and are located on the 4th, 10th, 13th and 15th floor: MC (Long Model), MR1 (Rectangular Model 1), MQ (Square Model) and MR2 (Rectangular Model 2). The simulations took place from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm every day of the year, in the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and Northwest orientations in dynamic sky, using 12 measurement points in the environment. The methodology considered the ranges of the UDIs (Useful Daylight Illuminances), the DA (Daylight Autonomy) and the recommendations of NBR 8.995-1 for kitchen environments. Regarding the percentages of IDUs, only on the 15th floor, it will be possible to observe an increase in performance for MQ and MR2, not reaching, however, more than 20% in the sufficient range, in all simulated orientations. Regarding the AD, no model on the 4th and 10th floor reached the minimum value of 200 lux recommended by the NBR. 8995-1.
