The present work aimed to identify the window to floor ratio associated more effectiveness to daylighting and low energy building, regarding full shaded window, air conditioning and hybrid lighting, in office rooms, in the humid tropic of Brazil. The rule of thumb most used by architects in early design stages, aiming at effective daylighting, focus on window size and room depth. However, there is limited information about it in the Brazilian technical literature and previous works have ignored relevant aspects in the assessment of daylighting and energy consumption. The method consists of a comparative analysis of the performance of computer models. The evaluation was based on useful illuminance, daylighting uniformity, glare illuminance and consumption with lighting and air conditioning. Computer simulation with Daysim and DesignBuilder tools generated the data. The analysis compared ranges of performance variation by four parameters and in four window to floor ratio values. The results showed values that are beyond the limits pointed out in the literature, being successful. These results are expected to contribute to the improvement of design guidelines for warm climates.
