Researches about the quality of the indoor environment have been developed for over a century, but with the current global pandemic challenge, the importance of assessing the influence of the indoor environment on occupant’s health, comfort and performance has become even more evident. This research aimed to analyze the satisfaction of members of research laboratories regarding the layout of the study / work environment in the context before the pandemic, in a laboratory located at the university, and in the current context of the pandemic, in the residential environment. The methodological procedure was divided into two stages: (1) application of a perception questionnaire to learn about users' satisfaction with visual and sound privacy, ease of interaction, individual space, type of furniture and finishing surfaces of the two environments evaluated; and (2) analysis of the collected data. Among the results, it can be mentioned that the factors with the best performance in research laboratories were the ease of face-to-face interaction, individual space and type of furniture and finishing surfaces, whereas in residential environments were visual privacy and finishing surfaces. It was concluded that the return of face-to-face activities each type of environment can be used in order to take advantage of its positive aspects and, thus, reconcile periods of activity in both. The research laboratories were evaluated as environments with a greater propensity for the development of collective activities, exchanges of knowledge among individuals and performance of tasks over extended periods, however the residential environment proved to be more suitable for tasks that require concentration, such as reading and writing.
