Natural ventilation diagnostics in occupied buildings require measurements that can represent discomfort for their occupants and that require significant logistical work. An economic alternative to assess the ventilation of a building is explored here, which can also be useful to estimate the performance of ventilation in similar buildings but located elsewhere. The method uses the characterization of the local wind using the records of nearby meteorological stations and the data obtained in short-term ventilation measurements to calculate the ventilation efficiency coefficients of the building discriminated by ranges of wind speed and direction. Crossing annual wind records with the results of a ventilation monitoring campaign inside allows estimating the annual performance of the building with respect to natural ventilation, characterizing the way the building is ventilated and exploring how the ventilation condition it might vary when considering other hypothetical locations. The results allow to estimate the annual behavior of the ventilation of a building, to compare the ventilation performance of a certain kind of building envelope under the characteristic ventilation conditions of a site and to estimate the performance of the ventilation of a building in the case that it was located in other places.
